MEP Minister Met with Japanese Environment Minister

MEP Minister Zhou Shengxian met with Minister Ryu Matsumoto of Japanese Ministry of Environment in Tokyo, Japan when he accompanied Premier Wen Jiabao attending the Fourth China-Japan-Korea Summit on May 21.
First of all, MEP Minister Zhou Shengxian on behalf of Ministry of Environmental Protection expressed deep condolence to the Japanese people died in the strong earthquake and secondary tsunami. He said, the Chinese delegation accompanying with Premier Wen Jiabao arrived the disaster hit area this morning and witnessed life and property loss caused by the earthquake and tsunami and determination and confidence of the Japanese Government and people in overcoming the disaster. Ministry of Environmental Protection is willing to give relevant support within its capacity based on the requirement of Japanese side. Meanwhile, Minister Zhou Shengxian hoped that China and Japan would strengthen exchange and cooperation in the field of nuclear safety. 
Talking about the just closed 13th Tripartite Environment Ministers Meeting, Zhou Shengxian said, environment ministers of the three countries have reached many agreements at the meeting, many of the outcomes are recognized by the Fourth China-Japan-Korea Summit. He believed that this China-Japan-Korea Summit will surely promote environmental protection cooperation among the three countries to a new high. 
Minister Ryu Matsumoto expressed his thanks to MEP Minister Zhou Shengxian for writing him a letter of sympathy immediately after the earthquake and sincere thanks to China for unselfish assistance. He expressed his thank to the support of Chinese delegation at the 10th COP of Convention on Biological Diversity held in Nagoya in 2010. He hoped that the two countries at the strategic height to strengthen environmental protection cooperation including the cooperation in the field of nuclear safety. 
The two sides also spoke highly of active and effective cooperation in the field of environmental protection over the past 30 years and are willing to strengthen the coordination of their stand on regional and global issues and jointly promote green development of the region.
